Agent of influence/ factors you may consider
Family: structure, occupations of family members, your positions among siblings, early memories, experiences, feelings, travel, etc. Whether you felt connected or separated, religious affiliations, attitudes, your relationships, experiences, and activities. SES, parenting and discipline.
Community: size, location, economy, attitudes, etc. Talk about special people in your neighborhood or community and how they affected you. If you moved, be sure to reflect each community as well as how the move affects you.
School: this includes preschool, afterschool care, as well as public, private, or homeschooling experiences with teachers, curriculum, and any other influences from the formal or hidden curriculum of a school.
Peer group: who were your friends? What groups did you belong to, what behaviors did they shape? What were the rules and expected behavior? What effect do you think they had on you? Did your friend group change often or almost never? When did they change?
Media: what forms of media were you exposed to? How did the media influence your thinking? What books did you read ( in school/at home), television programs, movies, magazines, videos, etc.? How did each influence you?
Discuss the agents of socialization listed in the table below, relating your personal experiences to the research and theory presented in the class. Each one of the spheres of influence listed in the table is relevant and even the lack of exposure within a sphere is relevant to your socialization.
Address each of the following agents of socialization-minimum of 1 page per agent. As you discuss each agent, consider how experiences, people and major events influenced your socialization. You are required to provide specific examples and connect your experiences with socialization theory and major concepts within the agent. Identify, apply and discuss all agents of socialization and discuss at least 3 methods of socialization per agent. Support your ideas.
