A mass of 0.50 kg hangs from a thread 1.50 m long. The mass is drawn aside a horizontal distance of 0.50 m, keeping the string taut.
A pencil is clamped vertical so that when the mass is released it will
swing and break the pencil. After breaking the pencil the mass
continues to swing but only moves a horizontal distance of 0.32 m,
determine the energy required to break the pencil.
