1. The rule that the Right of Occupancy is based on. HERE ARE THE NOTES

DAY ONE NOTES
Sovereignty is essentially the power to make laws
Sovereignty refers to having supreme, independent authority over a geographic area, such as a territory.
When discussing Indigenous people’s sovereignty, there is always a connection to a specific area of land. Going back to our definitions, the US Legal definition of the land states, “Sovereignty refers to having supreme, independent authority over a geographic area, such as a territory.” While sovereignty can exist without an explicit connection to a territory, Indigenous sovereignty will ALWAYS reference a specific location.

DAY TWO NOTES
sovereignty is the backdrop through which history must be read in order to provide a real understanding.
Right of Occupancy

“The right of occupancy is not based on a treaty, statute, or other federal government action.”
until that right shall be extinguished by a voluntary cession to our government.
Self-government is right in which a voluntary cession of the right of occupancy cannot extinguish.
