Commonly, union activity was not good for employers since they always want to make a profit, often even at the expense of the workers, so all new acts introduced because of the union were usually disliked by employers.

Nativists are people who are against immigration, and in employment, this usually refers to the idea that immigrants take jobs from citizens of a country because they are prepared to work for lower wages.
