In what ways did gladiatorial combat change between the time of julius caesar in 46 b. c. and constantine the great in a. d. 312?

The change that occurred in the gladiatorial combat during Caesar's reign and Constantine reign was that it was abolished  by Constantine.

During the reign of Caesar, he used the gladiator games as way to get more popular.

Caesar also used this as a way of eulogizing his father who had being dead for a long time.

Constantine on the other hand banned the games during his reign. He was a Christian Emperor who despised the games.

According to him, the gladiator culture was uncivilized and threatened domestic peace.
