In a democracy, a government gets its power from the citizens.

An example of this would be the system of democracy we use in America. In America, we use a form of democracy in which the citizens have the ability to pick politicians who will make laws for us. In this case, the power of the government comes from the people, as they are the ones who pick the officials who will run our government. This means that politicians have to respond to the wants and needs of the citizens, otherwise they will not be elected into office.
