perestroika. it was a political movement for reformation within the communist party of the soviet union during the years 1980-1990. it is widely associated with the the figure of mikhail gorbachev, a soviet leader and his new openness policy, starting the reform process and leading to the dissolution of the soviet union. the word perestroika means restructuring in russian.
