We might as well talk about the advantages of the European powers that enabled them to colonize the non-European regions:

Social Darwinism: The Europeans believed there was a sort of hierarchy of people. As a superior race, it was their duty to take over and advance the primitive nations. 

Navy: The quickest way to travel and with such a large mobile navy they couldn't really be stopped 

Gunpowder: A significant development coming from China. It allowed the development of the gun and initial bombs.
