What are the main points of the virginia plan?

The Virginia Plan, written by James Madison, was proposed in 1787 in response to the failure of The Articles of Confederation. It sketches out what the new form of government should look like, including three branches with checks and balances. The Legislative Branch in this plan would be bicameral, each house having a number of votes based on each state's population. This plan allowed for the larger states to maintain a stronger legislative voice than the competing New Jersey Plan, which called for one vote for each state.
