The pyramids were one of the greatest accomplishments in ancient Egypt. The oldest pyramid was made for King Zoser. This happened between the years of 2667-2648 B. C. Along with the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians were the first people to make their language into codified writing. The Egyptians also made their own black ink by mixing vegetable gum, soot and bee wax to make black ink. The Egyptians also made their own calendar. This calendar was called the solar calendar. They created this calendar by recording yearly appearances of the dog star also known as Sirius. Their calendar consisted of 365 days and 12 months. There were 30 days in each of the 12 months. Eventually Ptolemy III added one day to the 365 days. He did this every four years. Many people in Ancient Egyptians shaved their heads when the hot summers came by. This was because they wanted to remain clean and keep lice from getting into their hair. People who could afford to buy wigs had them. They were made in various styles with perfumed beeswax
