What did alliances between countries mean as war became a danger in 1914? Countries with fewer alliances were reluctant to fight other alliances. Countries that joined alliances encouraged countries to keep the peace. Countries were confident that allies would fight with them if they declared war. Countries were afraid that the alliances would not support them.
