Why is is said that contour lines never cross? since a vertical cliff face has all elevations between top and bottom of the cliff coincident, thus all contour line meet. furthermore, when one gets an overhang, they do actually cross. lines of isobaric pressure, yes i can see that it would be impossible for these to cross, but contour lines? ? certainly not.
