Mars is not simply one of Earth's closest neighbors; it's also the only planet in our solar system that is similar to Earth.
Because of this similarity we can learn a great deal about Earth by studying Mars. However, some scientists and private
companies want to do more than study Mars. They actually want to visit it! As they get closer to achieving this goal, this
question arises: Even if we have the technology to send people to Mars, should we? We should not send humans to Mars
because it could cause irreparable harm to the planet.
Many scientists and other experts warn that humans could contaminate Mars with bacteria and other microorganisms.
They believe that human contamination would make it more difficult to locate and study life on Mars. According to an
article titled "Mars," this contamination could also "negatively impact lifeforms, such as microorganisms, that may
currently exist there." Some experts claim that we should travel to Mars because it would provide opportunities for
technological advancement and international cooperation. While there are benefits to sending humans to Mars, the risks
outweigh the gains. In fact, previous missions to space have shown that the same results can be achieved by simply
studying Mars from afar.
Mars may indeed have the answers to some of the biggest challenges we face here on Earth. Which is why it's so
important to preserve the planet. But if humans contaminate it, we may never find the answers we're looking for!
