"Everyday Use" shows the character of Maggie as someone who is timid and too self-conscious that she barely seems able to even express herself at all.

When the issue of their grandmother's quilts came up, she knew that Dee will only use it and then discard it without knowing the full significance and emotional attachment it has with their family. so, she was adamant to make it a point that the quilt is given to her but she ended up not getting it.
