The catch

(1) andrew raced down the field with his eyes on the ball. (2) he felt certain that this time he would make the catch. (3) he’d been playing hard all season, and he was dettermined to cary this play to the end. (4) the ball came within reach, and andrew grabbed it out of the air. (5) it was the winning touchdown! (6) andrew was to hear the cheers of the crowd. (7) it was finally his moment. (8) he held the football over his head as his ecstatic teammates rushed across the field and surrounded him. (9) “yeah, andrew! ” exclaimed james, the quarterback. (10) andrew was all smiles until he noticed that james’s face was undergoing a strange transfermation. (11) before andrew’s incredulous eyes, james was beginning to look more and more like mrs. berman, his english teacher. (12) the voice coming out of james’s mouth sounded just like hers, too. (13) “andrew! i’m speaking to you.”

(14) as andrew stared in confusion, his teammates began to fade away. (15) he looked into mrs. berman’s face and asked, “mrs. berman, what are you doing here? ”

(16) andrew heard giggling and looked around. (17) the football field had disappeared. (18) he realized that he was sitting in a classroom. (19) everyone was staring at him. (20) “i’m trying to teach a class, andrew,” mrs. berman replied in an exasperated tone. (21) “it would be a lot easier to do without your snoring.” (22) the students erupted in laughter once again, but then they quickly stopped when mrs. berman, their teacher, spun around to glare at all of them.

(23) andrew looked down at the open book on his desk and mumbled, “i’m sorry, mrs. berman.”

(24) “all right, then,” his teacher said in a more composed voice, seemingly appeased. (25) “everyone turn to page 24.”

(26) after class, his friend jordan patted him on the back. (27) “ for the laugh, andrew. that was the funniest thing ever.”

(28) andrew groaned. (29) he was ashamed. (30) he made a silent promise to himself to go to bed earlier that night; losing sleep had unwelcome consequences.
