The theme of the story is to Be happy with what you have. I think this because the main character knew that escaping was almost impossible. On the other hand he can get something that is secure. Two cans of Condensed Milk. He was happy with those things. We also saw the consequences of the people that are greedy and want more like his friend. He had more than the main character, yet he tried to escape and two men were killed when he tried. His friend was also very greedy because he had a job and food at the camp, he even had a nice pair of socks, but he wanted more.
