What is the tone of the passage?
vegetable gardening
isn't it a lot of trouble to run to the supermarket every time you run out of fresh tomatoes or cucumbers? what if you could step into your backyard and just pick a dozen tomatoes off a plant? growing your own vegetables is time-consuming, but the rewards are many.
you can save money by growing the vegetables your family eats. a head of organic cauliflower, for example, can cost five dollars in the store, but it can be grown for pennies in your own garden. it also saves you the time and effort of visiting a grocery store. you do not have to grow vegetables that need a lot of care and attention. you can stick to vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, and other vegetables that are easy to grow.
vegetable gardening has additional benefits, too. vegetable gardening puts you back in touch with the earth because it is peaceful and meditative. in fact, it seems impossible to worry about other parts of life while you are gardening. if you do not have room for a garden where you live, you can always participate in a community garden.
