During the period of Old Kingdom pharaohs managed to organize a strong central state. They built pyramids at Giza . Three of them were named after the pharaoh that built them - Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus. During Middle Kingdom trading links were established with the outsiders. Most famous pharaoh of this period were Amenemhet I, Senusret I and Senusret III.

The pyramids were representing Egypt’s stable economy. Capital of Egypt during Old Kingdom was Memphis . Building of the pyramids caused heavy taxes, government debt and human suffering . This period ended with civil wars.  The capital was moved to Thebes in the period of Middle Kingdom.
