A pressure cooker (see Fig. 1) is used to cook foods faster than an ordinary pot by maintaining a high pressure, and therefore a higher temperature, inside it. The lid of the cooker is well-sealed and steam can only escape through a small hole in the middle of the lid. This hole is closed by a petcock, a small metal piece that can slide up and down, that prevents steam from escaping until the pressure in the cooker is sufficient to lift it from the opening. Determine the gage pressure inside the cooker if a petcock of mass 250 g is needed and the opening has a cross-sectional area of 10 mm2. The non-linear variation of the boiling temperature of water as a function of pressure is plotted in Fig. 2. What is the cooking temperature for this pressure cooker
