In the reaction scheme, two compounds react in the presence of L2Pd and OH minus. The line-angle formula of the first compound contains a five-carbon chain with a Br atom attached to the fourth carbon (from left to right) and with a double bond between the fourth and the fifth carbons. The second compound contains two fused rings; the right ring is six-membered, and the left one is five-membered. The second and the third members of the right ring are common with the fourth and the fifth members of the left ring. The right ring contains alternating single and double bonds, and all the members are vertices. The first and third members of left ring are O, and the second vertex is B. The B atom has a five-carbon chain attached by its first carbon. The attached chain has a double bond between the first and the second carbons and a CH3 group attached to the second carbon. The B atom and the third chain carbon are on opposite sides of the double bond in the chain. Draw the molecule on the canvas by choosing buttons from the Tools (for bonds and charges), Atoms, and Templates toolbars.
