In a wetted-wall column, a study involving absorption of ammonia by water is conducted. The value of the overall mass transfer coefficient based on gas phase (KG) is found to be 2.8  10-6 kmol/m2 .s. kPa. At one point in the column, the gas and liquid phase compositions are measured to be 6.0 (yA, b) and 0.12 (xA, b) mole% NH3, respectively. The temperature (T) is 300K and the total pressure (P) is 1 atm. 90 % of the total resistance to mass transfer is found to be in the gas phase. At 300 K, ammonia– water solution follows Henry’s law upto 5 mole% ammonia in the liquid, with m = 1.5 when the total pressure is 1 atm. Calculate the flux of ammonia at the given point in the column (NA), individual film coefficients (kx, ky) and the interfacial concentrations (xA, i, yA, i). Interfacial concentrations lie on the equilibrium line.
