Burmese pythons are a large breed of snake that were brought over to the u.s. as an exotic pet in the 1970s. they are a species of snake native to asia. some owners set the snakes free into the wild after learning that they were too difficult to care for. the florida everglades is a perfect habitat for the burmese python. this invasive species has thrived in the everglades and its population has grown exponentially since the 1990s. in this habitat that at one time had no burmese pythons living in it, now has a population estimated between 30,000-100,00. pythons are predatory animals that feed on animals in the everglades such as rabbit, deer, raccoons, and even alligator. these animals have experienced devastating effects to their populations. with such a drastic population increase in burmese pythons, predict what the population of this biological change to the florida everglades ecosystem has on the population of the other animals.
