Ask questions: Do students who carry heavier backpacks report more pain than students who do not?

Construct hypotheses and make predictions: Students who carry heavier backpacks are more likely to experience pain in their back at the end of the school day.

Test hypotheses: Get a sample of students in the school to help with the experiment. All students in the experiment would be students from the school and have no known back conditions. Then weigh the students’ backpacks, and ask the students if they have back pain at the end of the day.

Analyze results: Record the data in a table, and then organize the information by the weight of the backpacks. Group the backpack weights in five-pound intervals (five pounds, ten pounds, etc.) and use a bar graph to show the yes and no responses to the pain question for each student.
