A biome is an area of the planet that can be classified according to plants, animals, temperature, soil, and the amount of light and water in a biome. The major terrestrial biomes are tropical rainforests, temperate forests, deserts, tundra, taiga/ boreal forests, grasslands and savanna. The major marine biomes are the intertidal zone, the abyssal zone, the pelagic zone and the benthic zone.
