Since they transfers the materials throughout the cell, they are also known as the transport system of the cell or a pathway for the cells. These are continuous structures having outer nuclear membrane. They helps in the synthesis of the proteins, lipids, glycogen and also some steroids i.e. cholesterol, progesterone and testosterone.
