It's probably important to have realistic interpretation because then the artist's audience can actually relate to it. The role of the artist has changed (if any) may have been the fact that now not only do they speak for themselves, their art now expresses other people's feelings too that can not express on their own. At least that's what I believe.

The term collage was coined by both  georges braque  and  pablo picasso  in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art.hope this sorry if there wasn't more of an explanation!
