What happens under a democratic system that does not happen under a representative democratic system?

In a democratic system people directly vote, while in a representative government the people vote directly on the people they want to represent their ideas for that state, city, town. in a representative government the people don't directly vote on issues they people they voted for to represent them do based off of what the people are mainly asking for.
