Well, The Greek people thought there were many different types of gods, all with different powers like Zues the god of sky, Hera god of marriage, Aries god of war, and so on. One of the important ones were Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite,Hephaestus, Hermes, and either Hestia or Dionysus. There are twelve of them. Athens held a five-day festival celebrating the gods of rebirth. The greeks had many traditions with the festivals that they celebrated for the gods. Some of the most important ones were Olympic games, which were held in honor of Zeus, and the Pythias games, held at Delphi in honor of Apollo. On festible in Athens, held to honor Dionysos, involves a competition between playwrights.  In ancient Greece, the people believed in many gods. One important god was Dionysus, the god of fertility. Each spring, Athens held a five-day festival celebrating the god's rebirth. Over time, the Greeks developed many traditions for their festivals.           Creon is the king of Thebes in the play Antigone, Creon is a leader who identifies power and dignity entirely with himself. Instead of accepting kingship as a duty, Creon was prepared to maintain the throne as his unquestioned right and rules. For example, in this quote "It seems that prophets have made me their special province,/ All my life long/ I have been a kind of butt for the dull arrows/ Of doddering fortunetellers!/ No, Teiresias:/ If your birds - if the great eagles of God himself/ Should carry him stinking bit by bit to heaven,/ I would/ not yield. I am not afraid of pollution:/ No man can defile the gods." Creon is placing his law above the laws of the gods.  He rather rules with his own will, rather than for the good of the people. He is full of pride and ambition at the start, by the end of the play Creon suffers the wrath of the gods.

                     Power corrupts the characters in the play, especially Creon. For example, when Creon uses his power to stop the rebellion and for the death sentences. Power gets over Creon’s head and he disobeys the gods, but at the end of the book, he feels their wrath. "It seems that prophets have made me their special province,/ All my life long/ I have been a kind of butt for the dull arrows/ Of doddering fortunetellers!/ No, Teiresias:/ If your birds - if the great eagles of God himself/ Should carry him stinking bit by bit to heaven,/ I would/ not yield. I am not afraid of pollution:/ No man can defile the gods." This shows how he abuses his power to stop the burial of Antigone’s brother and defies the gods.
