This phrase doesn't have the most fitting translation from Italian. One because the diction in english in your translation isn't the same as what is being said in Italian. Second because, unlike in Italian, in English it makes more sense to put the location (the battle) after the main sentence. This is how I would translated it: Astonishing events occurred during the battle.

This isn't wrong, but a better word might be "powerful." When I think of the word "loud" in Italian I think of "forte", but when I think of "powerful" I think of "potente".

I've never heard of the word pomp before now, but "gande fasto" basically means that it was really spectacular and fancy. I would have used the word "lavish"
