Pronunciation 1: LL Sounds Like The English Letter 'Y'

Just as you learned in your beginner course or textbook, ll most often sounds like the English letter 'y' as in the words “yellow” and “yes”. This is the way ll is pronounced in Spain, parts of Mexico, and most of Central and South America.

Explanation:

The sound you're most likely to hear for the ll (and the sound you'll hear in our​ audio lesson on the ll sound) is similar to the "y" of yellow. So in much of the Spanish-speaking world, there is no difference between the sound of the ll and of they when it is used as a consonant.
