1. The islands of Puerto Rico and Cuba have a great deal in common. As near-neighbors in the Greater Antilles island chain, both lie in the Caribbean between Florida and Venezuela. Both share Spanish origins, and both islands have played key roles in the history of the Americas.

1. The two ways that visitors can experience ancient Mayan culture in the Yucatan Peninsula is by visiting the old Mayan buildings and ruins and the other is by having a conversation with the local people.

2. The sentence is using the word  "quiere" which means wishing for something to be true. Expressions of wishing, hoping or wondering in Spanish, require the subjunctive.
