Sevillla y Salamanca son ambas ciudades y, al mismo tiempo, municipios. Una de las diferencias importantes entre estas dos ciudades es que Sevilla cuenta con un puerto, el puerto de sevilla el cual está localizado a 80 km de la desembocadura del Guadalquivir, siendo éste el único puerto fluvial comercial Español. Por otro lado, Salamanca no cuenta con ningún puerto.

Salamanca cuenta con dos catedrales, llamadas la catedral vieja y la catedral nueva. Lo que caracteriza a estas dos catedrales es que se encuentran pegaditas una de la otra, puesto que al iniciarse la construcción de la nueva, en 1513, se decidió no demoler la vieja. De manera que se tienen dos catedrales juntas. La catedral vieja es de estilo románico y gótico mientras que la nueva es casi, en su totalidad, de estilo gótico.

El auge de la Universidad de Salamanca hizo posible la construcción de la catedral nueva, cuya construcción fue apoyada por los Reyes Católicos en el año 1513. Quizá la característica más importante de esta Universidad es que es la más antigua de España y del mundo hispánico siendo, también, la tercera universidad más antigua de Europa.
