Suchitoto is a town at El Salvador that is currently considered heritage and is prosperous. However, in the 1970s it suffered isolation due to the construction of the Cerrón Grande Hydroelectric Plant with a reservoir, later known as Lake of Suchitlán; and with it the flood of fertile fields that were the inhabitants' source of production.

In addition, this town was severely affected by the civil war that took place between the guerrillas and the Salvadoran Army between 1980 and 1992.
