Dysfunctional global assumptions refer to our core beliefs (The very essence of how we see ourselves and everything around us) that are dysfunctional, untrue, not based on reality or just bad for our well-being and growth. This type of belief is rigid, over-generalized and sometimes extreme, and it results in constant automatic thoughts, negative emotions or maladaptive behaviors, sometimes trigger in certain situations, such as receiving a bad comment from someone, or they just appear along the day.

Jamie is having this type of assumption when he is constantly having a negative thought of not having control over his emotions. However, he is generalizing that idea, it is not necessarily true, but it's still a thought that may block him out, prevent him from growing, have a more open mind, enjoy more, take control over himself, etc.
