. Malaria is a disease that is carried by mosquitoes and injected into a person’s bloodstream when they are bitten by the infected mosquito. At first people thought malaria was caused by breathing in the air around swamps. This seemed like a logical conclusion, since people who live near swamps were more likely to contract malaria than people in drier places.
