How does lubrication reduce the friction ??​

Lubrication reduces the heat generated when two surfaces are in motion. It smoothes the process by forming a film between two surfaces that reduces friction and thus improves performance and efficiency. There are different variety of lubricants and oils available such as Engine Oil, Hydraulic Oil, and Greases.

A lubricant can be defined as a substance, like grease capable of reducing friction, heat, and wear when introduced as a film between solid surfaces. It is usually organic, added to reduce friction between surfaces in common contact, which eventually reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move.

When we add lubricant to a machine it spreads between the two surfaces rubbing with each other and removes the irregularities present on the surface, forms a thin layer between the surface in contact.  As a result, the contact between the two hard surfaces is replaced by the lubricant layer due to it the force of friction gets reduced considerably.
