This is simply the idea that we learn about our own abilities and attitudes by comparing ourselves to other people

There is an independent view of the self which states that humans defines themselves (oneself) in terms of one's own internal thoughts, feelings, and actions and not in line with the thoughts, feelings, and actions of other individual.

While the interdependent view of sel states that method or measure to which one can of defining oneself in relative or in terms of relationship to other people, knowing fully well that that one's behavior is as a result of the thoughts, feelings, and actions of others.
