She now thinks her dad does not
like flowers.
He's trying to think up something nice to say, I thought. But
when Dad finally looked up at us, I had to look down
because he had tears in his eyes. "This is the best plant I've
ever had," he said. "You know why?"
We shook our heads.
She now thinks her dad likes
Spencer better than her.
"With this plant," he said, "you can't see what's keeping it
strong. When I was off fighting, there was only one thing
keeping me strong, and you couldn't see that either. Know
what it was?"
She now thinks Spencer chose a
good plant.
He gave us a teasing grin that made us giggle. Then he
pulled us into a big bear hug. "It was how much I love you
guys," he said.
We stayed hugging for a long and I didn't even mind
being smooshed up against Spencer
