Imagine it’s the year 1700. You’ve just become the monarch of a wealthy and influential kingdom in Europe. You could lead in one of two ways. You could be an absolute monarch who is all-powerful, centralizes rule, and has the final say over all matters of government and society. Or you could choose to limit your rule, meaning that you’d still be the leader of the kingdom, but you’d keep in mind the wishes and consent of your advisers and subjects. Which type of monarch would you be? Explain your choice in 50 to 100 words. What advantages and disadvantages might there be to your leadership style? Why?
