The Bible, especially the Torah, called the Old Testament portrays a paternal relationship between God (Yahweh) and the nation of Israel. Th Bible also portrays Yahweh as the husband of the nation of Israel in a figurative sense.

The following quotations from the Bible confirm the interpretations of the relationship between Yahweh and Israel.

Isaiah 54:5 says:
For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.

Jeremiah 3:14 says:
“Return, faithless people,” declares the Lord, “for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion.

Zechariah 2:8 promises that God will punish all nations and people who have persecuted Israel.
For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye
