At the beginning of the sixteenth century, Europe experienced a movement of renewal of the Christian Church called the Protestant Reformation. This movement was led by Martin Luther.

On October 31, 1517, Luther fixed in the door of the church of the Castle the 95 theses that criticized some practices of the Catholic Church. Luther was against the sale of indulgences and advocated a revision in certain behaviors of the Church, considered by him abusive, like the sale of indulgences. This movement transformed the relationship between the Church, the monarchies and bourgeois society.
