The eastern part of this lake is smaller and has mainly, salty water sources, it is also deeper while the western part is far bigger in area and has mainly freshwater sources allowing for it to compensate salinity, another important factor to create this peculiar situation is that, even though the two parts are the same lake, they are partially divided by a narrow water passage, only 3.5 km wide and 6m deep.
