The bubonic plague (known as the Black Death or the Black Plague) is a disease that is caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. Some of the symptoms are fever, headaches and vomiting. Often, swollen lymph nodes appear in the area where the bacteria entered the skin. This disease spread through Europe during the 14th century, causing millions of casualties. This was one of the worst epidemics in history, and it deeply affected the society of the continent.
