Why are families diverse in composition? how are family lifestyles of today different than the past?

Family lifestyles of today are very much so different from the past due to basic equal rights. Things such as, Feminism which allowed equal rights between men and women completely broke the cycle of an ascribed family. This allowed women to have freedom of proper education, jobs, etc... Families now, generally in the western areas, have changed roles. For example, men are now more responsible for the upbringing of their children, when in the past, the women were responsible. Men were seen as the support of the family, the stability. However, with the increase in single-parent families, the role of women have changed, making them the support and sustainability of their family. The roles of children have not changed that drastically, only the fact that in society now, children are taught how to learn and understand updated technology.
