Se caracterizan porque para dar solución a los problemas básicos de la economía: qué, cómo y para quién producir. Toman decisiones que tuvieron éxito en el pasado, es decir, que su supervivencia va a depender de si las decisiones del pasado fueron acertadas.

Son mercados competitivos, en los cuales el precio se fija por la oferta y la demanda.
