Who was Jane Yelvington McCalvin? ​

Most popular for her devotion to winning the option to cast a ballot, Jane Y. McCallum was a long lasting extremist, a productive author, and compelling assessment producer. Brought into the world in 1878 in La Vernia, Jane Yelvington wedded Arthur McCallum, who became director of Austin's state funded schools. They had five kids.  

In 1915 she became leader of the Austin testimonial affiliation and started long periods of campaigning officials for the vote, giving supportive of testimonial addresses, and composing for two nearby papers. With Minnie Fisher Cunningham, leader of the Texas Lady Testimonial Affiliation, McCallum guided an effective statewide exposure mission to win the option to cast a ballot in Texas primaries in 1918 and was among the primary Austin ladies to enroll. With others, she at that point effectively campaigned Texas congresspersons to approve the nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920. From 1923 to 1926, as top of the Ladies' Joint Administrative Chamber, she campaigned the state lawmaking body for laws well disposed to families, instruction, and general wellbeing.  

McCallum's political insightful made Lead representatives Dan Grouchy and Ross Authentic delegate her secretary of state from 1927 to 1933. In 1954, the year Texas ladies at last won the option to serve on juries, she was named the principal female official of a Travis Region Fabulous Jury. Jane Y. McCallum passed on in 1957. An assortment of her journals and compositions, altered by Janet G. Humphrey, was reproduced in 2015 in the Ellen Sanctuary Works of art book arrangement at Texas A&M College Press.
