A steppe is a landform with vast grasslands.

Steppe is a biome whose ecosystem is characterized by grassland or treeless plains and which has a dry climate. Most steppes are located in transition zones between desert and savannah in the northern hemisphere, sheltered next to a mountain range and isolated from sea winds. The major steppe areas are found in Central Asia, Mongolia, China and the United States. SSteppe areas are sparsely populated due to the dry climate and the lean soil that does not allow agriculture.
