**This collection focuses on the brutal era of slavery in America and those who fought heroically for the freedom of themselves and others. Douglas, Harriet and others who led the fight during this period in American history to end slavery were called abolitionists. In the excerpts from The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass,” and from “Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad,” you will learn about some of the experiences of key figures in the abolitionist movement. After reading the excerpts and other texts in the Collection, reflect on the concept of freedom exploring the many ways individuals fought for or against freedom.**
In this activity you will construct an informative essay (that synthesizes what freedom was worth for many and why others were persistent in their pursuits to deny freedom to those who were different.) Use relevant and sufficient evidence from multiple sources to strongly support your ideas. Be sure to use accurate punctuation to indicate a pause.(THREE TO FOUR PARAGRAPHS)
