Why was Korea permanently separated into two countries after the Korean War? The US and USSR could not agree on how to unite Korea. China controlled North Korea, and the US controlled South Korea. The USSR controlled North Korea, and the US controlled South Korea. North Korea wanted to be communist, and South Korea wanted to be democratic.
