How does increased soil salinity contribute to desertification?

Salinity is the accumulation of salt in the soil to the level that detrimental to the natural environment. Because of the increased concentration of salt, the osmotic pressure of the soil increases, which makes it difficult to get water into the plants. In this case, plants use much more energy to absorb water, and in extreme conditions of salinity, plants can not bring water and will wilt. Salinity usually occurs with reduced soil and water quality, erosion, etc.
